THE DIRTY PICTURE Review.... Rating 4/5.... Must Watch

Intermittently, real life is far more appealing and compelling than fiction. And a biopic -- which attempts to recount a person's life story or at least the most historically momentous years of his/her life -- is most demanding for not just the storyteller/s, but also the actors who bracket together with those films. Occasionally, a dash of some imaginary anecdotes are incorporated in biopics, since the moviegoer seeks some diversion and entertainment in a movie, besides enlightenment.

Write your own movie review of The Dirty Picture Having said that I'd like to add that it's easier to take a recognizable route, to opt for the tried and tested, but it's frightfully difficult to be diverse. Producers Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor are known for accepting challenges and backing films like LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA, RAGINI MMS and SHOR IN THE CITY and along with director Milan Luthria and writer Rajat Aroraa had successfully recreated the bygone era with flourish in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. Now THE DIRTY PICTURE fires all powerful bullets to stir your mind's eye.

The general feeling is, THE DIRTY PICTURE is a biopic on the life and times of Silk Smitha, a sought-after actress of the 80s. I personally feel that THE DIRTY PICTURE draws inspiration from the struggling female actors in the 80s, whose insurmountable and indomitable spirit made them emerge triumphant and create a distinctive space for themselves in the male-dominated industry. It's a recreation of an era, with the makers seeking motivation from a lot of characters to create this one woman.

Let me clear this at the very outset. THE DIRTY PICTURE not only draws attention to the life of a sex goddess, but also makes us responsive of the catastrophe behind the facade. Silk -- the principal character in THE DIRTY PICTURE -- provides titillation to millions of viewers, but dies a forlorn and heartbreaking death. She battles fame, fortune and alcohol. Brave, daring and provocative, THE DIRTY PICTURE doesn't cross the line into impropriety and offensiveness.

Envisage a junior artist who became the most sought after female protagonist of the early 80s. Chronicling the meteoric rise and steep fall of a screen sensation, THE DIRTY PICTURE is set against the colorful and entertaining setting of the South film industry of the 80s.

The quintessential siren, Silk, knew her spectators and it didn't seem like anything would stop the intensely motivated starlet, till it did, in the shape of unrequited love. To the world, she was the queen of sensuality. But, at heart, Silk was just another woman craving for true love. An unfortunate encounter with deceit and infidelity led to dire consequences!

First things first! Milan Luthria is brave and intelligent. Brave, because Milan steps out of the comfort zone to narrate the tragic story of an actress. Intelligent, because THE DIRTY PICTURE does not develop into a dry and depressing fare at any juncture. This one stresses on -- as Vidya puts it -- entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. Well narrated and wonderfully executed, THE DIRTY PICTURE is sure to strike a chord with the avid moviegoer. I'd like to give brownie points to Rajat Aroraa's dynamic script and razor-sharp dialogue. The riveting screenplay and power-packed dialogue will remain etched in our memory for a long, long time, eliciting a similar response like ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. The writing holds the spectators' interest and doesn't let you digress from the screen, except for a few minutes in the post-interval portions. The portions between Emraan and Vidya slows the narrative, though, I'd like to add, it picks up dramatically when Vidya gets conned by a maker of porn movies. The sequences thereafter, right till the finale, take the film to the crescendo again.

THE DIRTY PICTURE is embellished with several powerful sequences. Note the sequence when Vidya convinces/seduces Naseeruddin Shah, after he refuses to work with her. It's remarkable. Also, the first encounter with Emraan Hashmi. Noteworthy! Much later, the volatile sequence at the awards ceremony [the intermission point] is amongst the highpoints of the enterprise. The second hour has its share of super moments as well. The one featuring Vidya outside Anju Mahendroo's mansion is super. Vidya's interaction with the two women [individual sequences, both] -- with Naseer's wife first and Shakila, the dancer, next -- packs a solid punch. Vidya's interaction with the maker of porn movies is another shocking twist. The finale, of course, moves you no end.

Vishal-Shekhar deliver a good soundtrack. 'Ooo La La' is easily the song of the year [rendered brilliantly by Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Ghoshal], while 'Ishq Sufiyana' has long legs too. Another striking track is 'Honeymoon Ki Raat'. The choreography of these tracks [Pony Prakash Raj], especially 'Ooh La La', is straight out of the 80s. Bobby Singh's cinematography is magnificent.

Vidya's sizzling show and dare-bare act is sure to seize the viewers by complete astonishment. It's a novel casting because it is nothing like what Vidya has done before and is completely diverse to her image. But let's give Vidya the due: She delivers an astounding performance, pushing the envelope yet again. It wouldn't be erroneous to state that Vidya will walk away with the awards for the sterling act in this film. Besides, she carries off the hot attire without making her character look vulgar or tasteless. In fact, Milan and costume designer Niharika Bhasin Khan have ensured that the sexy-looking persona is aesthetically depicted. Vidya had put on oodles of weight to get the look of the character right and the flabby body only adds a lot of authenticity to the character she depicts on the big screen.

Naseeruddin Shah, who has been cast as an ageing South Indian superstar, sports wigs, dark glasses and painted moustache, reminding people of the stars of that era. He plays to the gallery, provoking claps, laughs and whistles, thus pulling off the role with élan. One has to credit Emraan Hashmi for willing to take on bold, aggressive characters. I actually wondered what prompted the actor to share screen space with Vidya, who has a meatier role and enacts the central character, but he walks his own path throughout the film. He plays the headstrong, hot-blooded, rebellious director to the hilt. Tusshar is wonderfully restrained in a significant role. His sequences with Naseer and Vidya, both are truly fantastic.

Anju Mahendru is first-rate, reminding people of a real-life lady journo, who was hugely popular for her writings in the 80s. Rajesh Sharma, the film-maker who 'discovers' Silk, is outstanding. An actor to watch out for! Shivani Tanskale, enacting the role of Naseeruddin Shah's wife, is perfect. Mangal Kenkre [as Ratnamma] and Imran Hasnee are adequate.

On the whole, THE DIRTY PICTURE banks heavily on shock-value, sex-value and most importantly, script-value. It's an exceptional portrayal of an ordinary person's rise from scratch to extraordinary heights and her subsequent fall. Without doubt, it is one of the most comprehensive scripts to come out of the Hindi film industry in 2011. A film with a universal theme and terrific mass connect, it has remarkable potential to set the cash registers ringing for one more valid reason -- entertainment, entertainment and entertainment.

Why Facebook Is In Blue Colour???

Do You Know Why Facebook Is In Blue Colour???

Facebook has gone through some major redesigns in the past few years but one part that has more or less stayed the same in all those years is the site’s blue color.
Everything is so blue about Facebook right from the sign-up page to the logo, their mobile app and even the site pop-ups that have shades of blue.
Why?
I was recently listening to an episode of Twig where host Leo Laporte pointed to this New Yorker story on Mark Zuckerberg that seems to explain why Facebook is all blue in color.

The young Facebook founder is color blind but can see Only blue Colour
"Colors don’t matter much to Zuckerberg; a few years ago, he took an online test and realized that he was red-green color-blind. Blue is Facebook’s dominant color, because, as he said, “blue is the richest color for me - I can see all of blue.”

Happy Feet 2 REVIEW... It taps penguin magic again

The penguins are as adorable as ever in 'Happy Feet Two'. Yet a couple of shrimp-like krill at the bottom of the food chain almost steal the show in this animated sequel that sticks to the formula of the original while adding enough variety to give it a life of its own.

REVIEW

It helps to have Brad Pitt and Matt Damon voicing the krill with great energy and companionability as they join a vocal cast that includes returning stars Elijah Wood and Robin Williams.

Director and co-writer George Miller, who handled the same chores on the 2006 Academy Award-winning first film, keeps the focus on penguins in peril while adding an interesting nature-in-perspective angle with the side journey of those tiny krill trying to find their place in a world of bigger, hungrier things.

The sequel delivers the key ingredients that made its predecessor such a hit: lovable characters that audiences young and old will want to follow. A rich blend of pop tunes employed in show-stopping song-and-dance numbers. Remarkable photo-realistic Antarctic landscapes whose bleak beauty pops off the screen even more than in the original, thanks to some of the finest use of 3-D animation since the digital age brought an extra dimension to the screen.

The snowy crags and peaks seemed tactile in 'Happy Feet'. In 'Happy Feet Two', you feel you could reach up and touch them, while the deep blue skies, with their billowy clouds, look real and right outside the window, rather than computer creations projected on a movie screen.

With co-stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman out of the picture, 'Happy Feet Two' is a next-generation story that follows the misfits-finding-their-place pattern of part one.

Once a freak for his tap-dancing skills in a colony where singing was the supreme talent, emperor penguin Mumble (Wood) is part of the establishment now that hoofing has joined crooning as a prized gift. Mumble and his mate, Gloria (pop star Pink, subbing for the late Brittany Murphy, who voiced the character in the original) have a tyke of their own, whose identity issues seem too pat a repetition of those his dad once faced.

Young Erik (adorably voiced by Ava Acres) hasn't got rhythm, you see, an embarrassment for the son of the local lord of the dance. Running away with a couple of friends as they chase after Mumble's buddy Ramon (Williams) on the return to his own penguin colony, Erik meets the amazing "flying penguin" Sven (Hank Azaria), whose can-do attitude makes him the idol of the youngster, to Mumble's detriment.

Miller again shovels on an eco message as a colossal iceberg cast adrift by climate change endangers the entire colony of emperor penguins. Once the crisis arrives, the action bogs down a bit, the movie lingering a long while on its penguins-on-the-precipice menace without a whole lot happening.

But with its interspecies collaboration, as birds, elephant seals and even the little krill contribute to a happy ending, the movie is a stirring, if kind of sappy, endorsement for the good that can result when everyone rows together.

The best addition of 'Happy Feet Two' are Pitt's Will the Krill and Damon's Bill the Krill, who are so engaging they deserve their own buddy-comedy spinoff.

When Will decides to swim out on his own to see the world beyond the teeming krill swarm, skittish Bill tags along. They discover to their horror that krill are just munchies for other aquatic life, sending Will on a comic quest to move up the food chain and become a predator himself.

The krill interludes are delightful, and the dark, quiet depths through which they swim make a lovely contrast to the bright world of the penguins above. The camaraderie of Pitt and Damon, co-stars in the 'Ocean's Eleven' movies, comes through loudly in their goofy banter, making them highlights of an already stellar voice cast.

Williams again does double duty in two breathlessly manic roles, voicing both Ramon and Lovelace, the colorful penguin who becomes a key disciple of Sven. Azaria, one of the vocal masters behind 'The Simpsons', extends his reputation as one of Hollywood's top voice stars, giving Sven a gurgling Scandinavian accent that's an absolute hoot.

Pink belts out pop songs old and new, co-writing one number, too. Williams, Azaria, co-star Common and even Pitt and Damon get in on the singing, the tunes woven cleverly into the themes and action.

You have to applaud a group of filmmakers that can take millions of disparate creatures -- plus songs as different as Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure" and the theme from "Rawhide" -- and unite them in a rousing, harmonic climax where for one brief Hollywood moment, predators and prey have a common cause.

Movie Review: Sri Rama Rajyam.... Rating: 3.75/5.0

Rating: 3.75/5.0
Banner: Sri Sai Baba Movies
Producer(s): Yalamanchili Saibabu
Director: Bapu
Music: Ilayaraja
Casting: Bala Krishna, Nayantara, ANR, KR Vijaya, Nagayya, Brahmanandam etc

Story

The most awaited mythological film ‘Sri Rama Rajyam’ starring Bala Krishna released today. The movie is based on ‘Uttarakanda’ of great epic ‘Ramayan’ written by Valmiki Maharhi.  We have seen movie ‘Lava Kusha’ based on the same in 60s. Legendry actor late NTR and Anjali Devi portrayed the roles of Sri Rama and Sita mesmerised the audience. Now Bala Krishna and Nayantara replaced the legendry actors in this modern visual poetry.
Like in ‘Lava Kusha’, the story begins with Sri Rama Pattabhishekam and sending pregnant Sita exile on hearing the accusations of people in his kingdom.  Later we will see birth of Lava and Kusha, Ashwamedha Yagna and conflict between Rama and his sons and Pattabhishem of Lava and Kusha and Rama and finally ending his Avatar.

Performance

Taking the inspiration from his father, Nandamuri Bala Krishna did a commendable job in the role of Lord Rama. He put his heart and soul in the role. At the same time it is unfair to compare Balakrishna with legendary NTR who lives in the mythological roles. But, if anyone comes close to NTR in portraying these kinds of roles, it will be none otherthan Bala Krishna. There is scope for improvement in Bala Krishna diction in Mythological roles.
Nayantara is perfect in the role of Sita. She is revelation in this movie. Her performance in the exile episode deserves accolades. She perfectly synced her lip movement to the dialogues even though she is alien to Telugu.

ANR performance is praiseworthy in the role of Valmiki Maharshi. Tollywood is very fortunate to have the actors like ANR. Srikanth gave neat performance in the role of Lakshmana. Vindoo Singh in Hanuman Role, K R Vijaya as Kousalya and Nagayya as Vasisshta maharhi justified their roles.Kids who acted as Lava,Kusha and young Hanuman deserves a pat on their back.

Technical

Bapu-Ramana, if the first one is known for his artistic elegance, the latter is renowned for penning heart touching and soothing dialogues. Ramana gave a beautiful script and dialogues to compliment the artistic direction of Bapu. Bapu did his best to extract the best out of the artists’ right form the body language to dialogue delivery and modulation. The screenplay should have been better. There are couple of scenes slowed down the movie in the second half while some important scenes ended abruptly.
Music by music maestro Ilayaraja is top class. All the tunes are well composed and are pleasant. Re-recording is also very good. Art work by Ravindra is top class except the colors he used. PRK Raju excelled in cinematography showing the movie colorfully which is important for any visual poetry film. Visual effects are good. Production values are high.Sunita dubbing for Nayanatara is good.

Analysis

‘Sri Rama Rajyam’ is made with utmost care to address the mythology and heritage. The movie runs on slow pace, but you can’t complain as the script demands it. The screenplay should have been better. Had the fight between Lava Kusha verses Rama and Lakshmana gets little bit more footage, kids would have enjoyed.
Finally, ‘Sri RamaRajyam’ is definitely watchable for its grandeur visual feast plus the performances by artists.  Cast and crew of the movie put their heart and soul to give us a near perfect film ‘Lava Kusha’.Overall, it is refreshing to watch.

'Tower Heist' is so fun, it's criminal

'Tower Heist' is an ensemble, and a strong one at that, led by Ben Stiller, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck and Tea Leoni. But Brett Ratner's blast of an action comedy truly brings out the best in Eddie Murphy, something many of us may have forgotten even existed.

REVIEW
Fast-talking, flummoxed and full of false bravado, Murphy gives a performance as a low-level thief that recalls his signature work in the movies that made him a superstar in the mid-1980s -- like '48 Hours' and 'Beverly Hills Cop'. When Murphy's on screen in his classic comic mode, it's hard to focus on anyone or anything else. It's as if we've turned back time and erased all those family-friendly duds and lame laughers that required him to climb into yet another fat suit or talk to even more animals.

Craig said he was "tremendously excited"

Ra.One Review

I've often heard people say, film-making is nothing short of a gamble. And as any gambler will tell you, you've got to gamble huge to triumph huge. Going by this logic, Shah Rukh Khan is The Supreme Gambler of the year.

What's at stake, beside the big money invested in RA.ONE of course, is a dream, a vision, an aspiration to make a film which appeals to kids and kids at heart. In short, attempt a film that appeals to the universal audience. At the same time, it ought to raise the bar for Hindi films. Also at stake is SRK's once-unchallenged supremacy as the reigning idol of Bollywood and that elusive thing called reputation. When you invest your repute in your dream project and stick your neck out, you expect nothing short of a mega-success.

The pair won a total of 7 Oscar awards for Best Animated Short Subject, more than any other character-based theatrical animated series. The series has also been named as the ‘Greatest Television Shows of All Time’ by TIME, in 2000. Tom and Jerry was also placed at the 66th position, in the ‘Top 100 Animated TV Shows’ by IGN, in January 2009.
