Robo Trivia

Kamal Hassan, Shahrukh Khan and now Rajnikanth
Shankar wanted to make Robo after the doing Nayak (Hindi version of Okkadu) with Kamal Hassan and Preity Zinta in the mainleads. Then it was put on the back burner. Shankar wanted to make Robot in Hindi with Shahrukh Khan as hero and producer. This project too didn’t materialize. Rajnikanth was roped into the project in 2008 after the huge success of Sivaji in the combination of Shankar and Rajnikanth.
Since it was a huge budgeted project, two comapnies Eros International (Famous distribution and DVD company) and Ayngaran International were supposed to produce it. They had to backout due to global meltdown. That is when Sun Pictures entered into an agreement to produce the movie.
2-year exclusive contract by the cast and crewmembers
Since it is a sci-fi film that involves visual effects and animatronics (usage of electronics and animation to simulate the real life creatures/objects), director Shankar made all the actors and technicians to sign a 2-year exclusive deal so that they can’t work for other movies. Aishwarya is the only person who was permitted to work in other projects simultaneously.

The shooting of the film was started in September 2008 in Peru with a song on the main leads. The other prominent foreign locations where the film was shot at is USA and Brazil. A major action episode was shot in Goa. A major part of the movie was shot in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The shooting was wrapped up in July 2010.
